Bulls Split In Final Day At FloridaTAMPA, FL - The University at Buffalo softball team kept its trip to Florida alive with a 3-2 victory over George Mason, but fell later Sunday morning to Ohio, 13-4, at the USF Speedline Invitational in Tampa, FL. Although Ohio is a fellow Mid-American Conference member, this was a non-conference game.
Junior Sophie Barstad (Canby, OR/Canby) took control in the first game as not only did she pitch a complete game for the Bulls, but also drove in two runs. Junior Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free Academy) also drove in a run for the Bulls who used the victory to advance in the consolation bracket of the USF Speedline Invitational.
In the second game, however, UB had a tough time with a hot Ohio squad who scored 13 runs in the victory. Barstad, serving as the designated player in this contest, recorded another RBI on the afternoon and Laura Kor (Beaverton, OR/Westview) and Dana Carter (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) also both recorded RBIs. Margo Schramm (Phoenix, AZ/Catalina Foothills/Iowa Lakes CC) started the game for the Bulls and pitched well despite the outcome of the contest. She was relieved by Jennifer Biernacki (Medina, NY/Medina) who finished up the game. The Bulls now head back to New York, where they will travel to cross-town rival Canisius on Wednesday, March 22. UB and Canisius will be play in a doubleheader that begins at 2:00 pm. |
