Magur Earns MAC Accolades

UB softball player selected Female Scholar Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, OH - University at Buffalo softball player Ann Magur (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) has been named as the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar Athlete of the Week, the league has announced.

Magur, a sophomore management major with a 3.83 GPA, went 4-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBIs in a doubleheader loss to the host Spartans at the San Jose State Invitational. The center fielder went 1-for-2 in the opener, a 4-3 eight-inning loss, and then went 3-of-3 from the leadoff position in the nightcap and knocked in UB's lone run. For the rain-shortened three-game tournament, Magur hit .444 (4-of-9). In 14 games this season, she is hitting .308 and is tied for the team lead with six RBIs. The Bulls open Mid-American Conference play this weekend with a three-game series at Marshall.

It is the second consecutive week that a UB athlete has been named the league's Female Scholar Athlete of the Week. Women's basketball player Rachel Martin (Kenmore, NY/Kenmore West) was selected last week for her play in the MAC Tournament first round victory over Central Michigan. Six UB women's athletes have earned the honor, tying with Miami (OH) for the most selections for the 2002-03 school year.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by one of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
