Kelly Malone

BUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo junior catcher Kelly Malone (Waterford, MI/Waterford Kettering) will miss the remainder of the Bulls' 2002 softball season, announced head coach Marie Curran. A sprain of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in her left knee has forced Malone to apply for a medical hardship waiver which, if granted, would give her an additional year of eligibility after her senior campaign in 2003.

Malone appeared in Buffalo's first game of the year at Charleston Southern on March 3 where she went 2-for-3 with a second-inning home run and two runs scored. She entered the year ranked second on Buffalo's career home runs list with nine round-trippers in her first two seasons. Malone appeared in 30 games last year while also battling injuries, and she finished tied for second on the team with a .287 batting average and a .463 slugging percentage.

The Bulls (1-5) begin the Mid-American Conference portion of their 2002 schedule with a three-game series at Ohio on Saturday and Sunday, March 23 and 24 in Athens, OH.
