Bulls Fall To Jacksonville, 7-3CLEARWATER, FL - The University at Buffalo softball team was unable to advance to the final game of the bronze medal bracket at the Adidas Tournament, falling 7-3 to Jacksonville on Sunday morning. The Bulls finish the tournament with a 1-6 record and are now 5-10 overall on the year.
The Bulls scored one run in the first inning as Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free Academy) singled to lead off the game. Jacksonville was unable to control a Colleen Greene (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill) sacrifice bunt and Russell scored all the way from first base. However, Jacksonville scored six runs in the next two innings, taking a 6-1 lead in the game. The Bulls scored another run in the fourth inning as Kerry Cafazzo (Everett, MA/Everett) drove in Kim Hanzlian (Cheektowaga, NY/John F. Kennedy) on a sacrifice fly. Cafazzo would score in the seventh inning on a Jacksonville error to give the Bulls their three runs. Junior Sophie Barstad (Canby, OR/Canby) picked up the loss for the Bulls as she allowed three earned runs in five innings. The Bulls will remain in South Florida for the USF Spring Break Tournament. They begin play on Tuesday with a non-conference matchup against MAC member Northern Illinois at 11 am. They play the host South Florida Bulls later that day at 4 pm. |
