Bulls Compete At Amy S. Harrison Classic

The University at Buffalo softball team made its first stop of a spring break trip across the country, heading to Riverside, CA to participate in the Amy S. Harrison Classic, hosted by the University of California-Riverside.

Day 1: Recap

UB faced Utah Valley State and UC-Riverside in the first day of action. The Bulls came up short in the day’s first game, dropping a 6-5 extra-inning heartbreaker to Utah Valley and later fell to the host Highlanders, 3-0.

Day 2: Recap

Buffalo suffered an 11-0 setback to the Hawkeyes. Starting pitcher Stephanie Visperas (Newark, CA/Newark Memorial) took the loss in the circle for UB giving up just two earned runs on four hits in two innings of work. The Bulls finished the game with two hits as Katie Ivancich (Dyer, IN/Andrean) finished 1-for-2 while Alex Bejarano (Chandler, AZ/Chandler) hit a single in the bottom of the fourth.

Day 3: Recap

On the final day of competition, the Bulls were upended by UC-Riverside 13-2. Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego) reached base three times, drawing three walks while Wendy Sheehan (Orange, CA/El Modena/Bowling Green) finished the game 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

Alex Bejarano and Wendy Sheehan led the Bulls’ offense in Riverside, each ending the three day tournament with a .333 batting average.

In nine appearances at the plate, Bejarano grabbed three hits, including her team-leading fifth double of the year.

Sheehan, meanwhile, finished the weekend 2-for-6 with two RBIs.

Next Up

The Bulls will travel from Riverside, CA to Lawrence, KS for a three-team tournament at the University of Kansas. Buffalo will take on the Jayhawks in a Friday doubleheader followed by single games vs. Louisiana Tech and Kansas on Saturday. UB will conclude its spring break sojourn with a single game against Louisiana Tech on Sunday.
