Softball Concludes Competition at FSU InviteTALLAHASSEE, FL – The University at Buffalo softball team concluded competition at the FSU Invitational, hosted by the No. 25 Florida State Seminoles. The Bulls dropped the final game of the tournament, falling to Appalachian State 5-3.
After giving up three early runs in the bottom of the second to ASU, Buffalo fought back with a late game offensive push in the top of the sixth. Colleen Greene (Cheektowaga, NY/Cleveland Hill) drew a walk to start the inning and freshman Liz Hauke (Maine, NY/ Seton Catholic) then reached on a fielder’s choice. Erin Zilka (Benicia, CA/Benicia) walked to load the bases for freshman Sharon Barr (Coarsegold, CA/Yosemite Union). Barr then tied the game, helping her own cause as the pitcher roped a three-RBI double to left center field. Unfortunately for UB, Appalachian State tallied two more runs in the bottom of the inning, extending its lead over the Bulls, 5-3. Brittany Hussong (Rochester, NY/Nazarath Academy/Monroe CC) and Hauke each grabbed their first season and first career hits for Buffalo while freshman Katie Ivancich (Dyer, IN/Andrean) also threw in a hit in addition to Barr’s sixth inning double.
No.21 Georgia took the tournament title, defeating No. 25 Florida State 2-1 in the championship game. The Bulls return to action on Wednesday, March 14 with a doubleheader against Boston University.
