Softball Wraps-Up Action In RiversideRIVERSIDE, CA – The University at Buffalo softball team concluded competition at the Amy S. Harrison Classic hosted by UC-Riverside on Sunday. The Bulls fell to the host Highlanders 13-2 in the final game of the tournament. The Highlanders grabbed three runs in the top of the first and ten more through the second and third innings to enter the bottom of the third with a 13 run advantage. Buffalo, however, battled back, mounting a rally in the second stanza of the third inning.
Kristen Gallipanni (Brewster, NY/Brewster) led-off the inning, finding her way to first after getting hit by a pitch. Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego) and Candice Sheehan (Orange, CA/El Modena) each drew walks to load the bases allowing Wendy Sheehan (Orange, CA/El Modena/Bowling Green) to plate the Bulls’ first duo of runs on a two-RBI single up the middle. UB was able to hold Riverside scoreless in the top of the fourth, but the Bulls couldn’t get things cooking in the batter’s box, ultimately suffering a 13-2 setback to the Highlanders. Offensively for the Bulls, Russell reached base three times, drawing three walks on the day while Wendy Sheehan ended the day 2-for-2 with Buffalo’s only hits and two RBIs.
Katie Ivancich (Dyer, IN/Andrean) took the loss for UB in the circle, giving up five earned runs on seven hits. Buffalo will continue its spring break trip in Lawrence, KS on Friday, as the Bulls are set to compete against Kansas and Louisiana-Lafayette in a three-team tournament. UB is scheduled to play a double-header versus the Jayhawks on Friday with the first game slated to begin at 3:00 pm.
