Bulls Collide With Hot-Hitting Hawkeyes

Softball continues play in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CA – The University at Buffalo softball team continued action at the Amy S. Harrison Classic, hosted by the University of California-Riverside on Saturday, facing the Iowa Hawkeyes in the Bulls’ only game of the day.

Buffalo suffered an 11-0 setback to Iowa.

After the Hawkeyes tacked one on the board in the top of the first and another in the second, the Bulls mounted a rally in the bottom of the fifth. Stephanie Visperas (Newark, CA/Newark Memorial) reached first on a dropped third strike. Sharon Barr (Coarsegold, CA/Yosemite Union) then got on base on a fielders choice, ultimately reaching third on a Katie Ivancich (Dyer, IN/Andrean) single up the middle.

The Bulls, however, were unable to plate the run as Kristen Gallipanni’s (Brewster, NY/Brewster) hard shot to right field was corralled by Iowa’s defense for the inning’s third out.

The Hawkeyes tabbed the Bulls for nine in the top of the sixth to emerge with the 11-0 win.

Starting pitcher Visperas took the loss in the circle for UB giving up just two earned runs on four hits in two innings of work. The Bulls finished the game with two hits as Ivancich finished 1-for-2 while Alex Bejarano (Chandler, AZ/Chandler) hit a single in the bottom of the fourth.
