TEMPE, AZ - Freshman Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free Academy) hit a bases-loaded single that drove in two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the University at Buffalo softball team a come-from-behind 5-4 win over New Mexico State at the Arizona State Triangular this afternoon. The Bulls also defeated the Aggies in eight innings in their first meeting on Friday, 5-3. Freshman Sophie Barstad (Canby, OR/Canby) earned the win on the mound for the Bulls, her fourth win of the season.

Buffalo then suffered a 6-0 loss to No. 20 Arizona State in the nightcap. The Sun Devils scored all six of their runs in a seven-hit third inning. The Bulls had six hits in the game, including two by Russell and one apiece by juniors Ann Magur (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott/Connecticut) and Julie Hibner (Salem, OR/South Salem) and seniors Marce Ross (Innisfil, Ontario/St. Peter's) and Dominique Jones (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-DeWitt). Sophomore Theresa Gugger (Binghamton, NY/Susquehanna Valley/Oneonta State) pitched the complete game on the mound for the Bulls, allowing 13 hits and striking out four.

The Bulls (5-7) conclude play at the triangular on Sunday, facing New Mexico State at 12 pm and Arizona State at 2 pm.
