CHATTANOOGA, TN- The University at Buffalo softball team completed action at the 2008 Frost Classic Softball Tournament, hosted by the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga on Sunday.

Against EIU in the team’s first game of the day, Mary Russell (Apalachin, NY/Owego) continued to lead UB at the plate, as the senior belted her second homer of the weekend. Russell’s homerun proved to be the only run the Bulls would plate in the game.

Lacy Schneider (Idyllwild, CA/Hemet) and Jaime Sheffler (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) each recorded their first hit of the season for Buffalo while Alex Bejarano (Chandler, AZ/Chandler) and Candice Sheehan (Orange, CA/El Modena) finished with one hit each.

Sharon Barr (Coarsegold, CA/Yosemite Union) took the loss for the Bulls on the mound, going 4.1 innings, striking out four and allowing seven earned runs.

In the second game of the day, Russell showcased more offensive flare, finishing the game 2-for-3 with one RBI. Sheehan and Bejarano inked Buffalo’s other two hits in the game. Freshman Stephanie Visperas (Newark, CA/Newark Memorial) took the loss in the circle for Buffalo, throwing the complete game and recording three strikeouts.

UB returns to action on Friday, as the Bulls are scheduled to collide with Iowa for the second time this season at the UC-Riverside Tournament. Game time is slated for 12:00 pm.
