Nine UB Softball Players Named Scholar AthletesBUFFALO, NY - Nine members of the University at Buffalo softball team were named UB Scholar Athletes for the recent 2000-01 Fall semester. Senior Stacee Madden (Corning, NY/Corning East/Allegheny College), sophomores Lisa Cox (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North), Laura Gilcrist (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) and Jessica Kensy (Cheektowaga, NY/Maryvale) and freshmen Dominique Jones (Jamesville, NY/Jamesville-Dewitt), Jessica Labella (Kings Park, NY/Kings Park), Breanne Nasti (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin), Heather Robbins (West Bloomfield, MI/West Bloomfield) and Allison Round (Markham, Ontario/Markham District) all earned recognition for obtaining a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. "Academics are an integral part of our program," commented UB head coach Marie Curran. "We feel recruiting academically-strong student-athletes shows a desire to succeed in the classroom which transfers over to the softball field. I'm especially proud of our freshman class having a cumulative GPA of 3.33 in their first semester at UB." The Bulls' softball team had a 3.11 team GPA for the semester, the fourth-highest team GPA
out of all of UB's varsity sports. |
