Final Days of Georgia Softball Invitational CancelledATHENS, GA - The final two days of the Georgia Softball Invitational were cancelled due to heavy rain in the Athens area. The University at Buffalo softball team opened the 2004 season by going 1-1 in the first two games of the tournament on Friday. Buffalo suffered a 5-0 loss to Virginia Tech before coming from behind to defeat Appalachian State, 6-5, in the bottom of the seventh inning. Buffalo was scheduled to face the host Bulldogs, currently ranked seventh in the nation in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 polls, at Noon on Saturday, with the championship round of the tournament scheduled to begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday. The Bulls are now off until February 27 when they begin competition in the Frost Classic,
hosted by the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. The Bulls are scheduled to face St. Francis College
and Tennessee-Chattanooga on Friday, Tennessee Tech and Marshall on Saturday and North Texas
and Tennessee-Martin on Sunday. |
