Sport ClubsThe Sport Clubs Program at UB is under the management of Student Association. It offers University at Buffalo students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community at large an alternative to intramural sports, physical education and intercollegiate athletics. All clubs are self-administered by elected student officers and are somewhat self-supported by membership dues, fund-raising activities, donor contributions and sponsorships. It is the responsibility of students to coordinate activities, classes, practices, employment of a coach, competition schedules, tournaments, transportation, publicity and all other factors of a successful operation. The benefits that individuals derive from a Sport Club commitment include self-satisfaction, development of leadership and organizational skills. All first-year participants and incoming freshman who would like to participate in the Sport Club program must pass a Pre-Participation Physical in order to receive medical clearance. The Free Pre-Participation Physical will take place on the following dates and times at the Sport Medicine Institute located at 160 Farber Hall on the South campus. Thursday, August 30, 2007 - 5 pm until 7 pm; Thursday, September 6, 2007 - 5 pm until 7 pm; Monday, September 10, 2007 - 5 pm until 7 pm; Thursday, September 20, 2007 - 5 pm until 7 pm. All physicals are free and are on a first come, first basis. If you do not complete a PPE you will not be allowed to participate in the sport club program. Please be advised that if you do not take advantage of these free physical dates, you will be charged $50.00 for a physical provided by SMI. Finally, If you choose to have your PPE completed by your own physician you must use the university's PEE form. No other form will be accepted. If the sport club members do not comply with this risk management requirement, they will NOT be eligible for participation in the University's Sport Club Program. Recreation & Intramural Services recognizes the value of the Sport Clubs experience in the quality of student life and encourages interest and participation. In addition, Recreation & Intramural Services provides facilities and administrative support.
