CPR / AED Program
The CPR / AED Program here at the University at Buffalo is administrated by
the Department of Recreation & Intramural Services in partnership with Student
Health Services and the Office of Environment, Health & Safety. The University
at Buffalo is an Official Training Center for the American Heart Association
Emergency Cardiovascular Care Program. The mission of our program is to reduce
disability and death from cardiac and respiratory emergencies and stroke by
improving the Chain of Survival in the University at Buffalo community.
R&I Services offers the following American Heart Association Courses:
Courses for THE HEALTHCARE PROVIDER SEEKING
A CREDENTIAL
BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS) FOR THE HEALTHCARE PROVIDER
- For healthcare providers such as, but not limited to, EMS personnel, physician assistant, daycare providers*, doctors, medical residents, medical students, dentists, nurses, nursing students, pharmacy students, exercise science students, physical therapists and respiratory therapists who must have a credential (card) documenting successful completion of a CPR course.
- The BLS for Healthcare Providers Course covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag mask), foreign body airway obstruction, and automated external defibrillation.
*must take BLS w/ Pediatric First Aid
Courses for THE LAY PERSONS SEEKING
A CREDENTIAL
HEARTSAVER FIRST AID AND CPR / AED
- For those who have a duty to respond to a cardiac emergency because of job responsibilities or regulatory requirements.
- CPR for Adult or Infant/Children. Includes CPR and First Aid for Choking, Signs of Heart Attack and Stroke, use of Barrier Devices and use of AED; plus First Aid Skills.
- The Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED course teaches how to manage illness and injuries in the first few minutes until professional help arrives.
- Course content includes General Principles, Medical Emergencies, and Injury Emergencies, CPR & AED and an optional Environmental Emergencies.

* The American Heart Association is a TWO-YEAR CERTIFICATION.
Payment Options:
Cash, check, money order or credit cards will be accepted.

- You pay in person at the recreation office, 130 Alumni Arena or
Clark Hall
- Payments must be received 5 business days prior to the class
- Payments will not be accepted at the door the day of class
- Bring proof of payment to class with you

All classes are held in room 105 in Clark Hall on the South Campus of the University at Buffalo. Please use the Rotary Road side entrance.
Course Registration
Make sure you put the date that you would like to take the course in order for a proper response to be sent.
Class Cancellation and Refund Policy
Refunds will be provided in the event the American Heart Association cancels a class or the participants' withdrawals five (5) business days prior to the start of a course. Less than five business days, refunds will be honored only if the participant has a documented emergency circumstance (illness, death in the family). If your class is cancelled, you will have the option of transfer to another scheduled course or a refund. Please note that it may take up to 15 business days to issue a refund.
