Crispell Wins USTA/ITA Award
BUFFALO, NY – Former University at Buffalo men's tennis coach Russ Crispell has been named as a recipient of the United States Tennis Association and Intercollegiate Tennis Association Community Service Award. Fifteen individuals from throughout the country were selected by the group. The award honors tennis coaches for significant contributions in developing community-based tennis programs through community centers, schools, parks, community tennis associations, inner city, suburban or rural programs. Crispell was named as the Eastern Sectional recipient. Additionally, Crispell, who currently serves as UB's Assistant Recreation Director for Outdoor Pursuits, recently spoke at the National Conference on Outdoor Recreation and Education delivering two presentations entitled "Transportation Issues For Outdoor Recreators" and "Hike it, Bike it, Climb it, Camp it, and Experience the Adirondacks – An Alternative Venue for Outdoor Programmers". Crispell co-presented the Adirondack presentation with his brother, Herb Crispell a retired professor from Suffolk County Community College. Crispell, the Past-President of the Association of Outdoor Recreation and Education received two awards at the conference for his dedication having served on the Board of Directors for the past three years and for serving as President. He remains active serving on the Marketing Committee, the Environmental Stewardship Committee, and as an ex-officio member of the Board as Past-President. Crispell retired from coaching the UB men's tennis team at the conclusion of the 2006 season. His career record with the men's team was 123-114 in 13 seasons. |
