Three University at Buffalo men's tennis players represented the Bulls at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's regional championships held at the University of Pennsylvania. All three players, Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornlea), Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) and Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) reached the second round in their disciplines before bowing out of the tourney.

Rockman Splits His Two Matches

Mike Rockman opened play in the men's singles draw with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Cprime Realista of St. Peter's to begin action on Friday. He advanced into the second round (the round of 64) against Princeton's Sratha Saengsuwarn, the tournament's 15th seed who had earned a first-round bye. Rockman fell 6-1, 6-2 in Saturday’s second round.

Nikesh Singh Panthlia competed in the tournament's qualifying bracket on Thursday playing a pair of three-set matches. He opened play with a victory over St. Bonaventure's Andrew Hart, 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-3. Singh Panthlia was denied in his shot to make the main draw of the tournament by Stony Brook's Quirjin Van Veen. Singh Panthlia opened the match with a 6-4 win in the opening set, before falling 6-3, 6-3 in the final two sets. However, all was not lost as he became the tournament’s “Lucky Loser”, gaining entry into the main draw via an injury to Virginia Tech’s Albert Larregola, the tournament's fifth seed. The UB junior fell to Brown's Chris Lee, 7-6 (2), 6-2, in the second-round match.

UB Doubles Duo Scores Win Before Elimination

UB’s doubles tandem of Mike Rockman and Yules Hadisubroto reached the second-round (round of 32) of the doubles competition. The UB duo knocked off Quinnipiac's Stefano Salvatore and Goldy Sherrill, 8-2, in Friday’s opening match. However, the UB pair was defeated 8-1 by Brown's Basu Ratnam and Eric Thomas in the round of 32.
