Kolomyts and Mazzetto Eliminated in ITA Regional Play

UB men's tennis pair win singles matches, fall in second round

NEW HAVEN, CT – After winning their opening singles and doubles matches on Friday, the University at Buffalo's Kirill Kolomyts (Moscow, Russia/Moscow High School 155) and Marcelo Mazzetto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Carlos Magno) were knocked out in the second round at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships hosted by Yale University.

Kolomyts opened play on Friday with a straight-sets victory over Army's Sean Harris, 6-3, 6-1. On Saturday, Kolomyts fell to Pennsylvania's Hicham Laalej by a 6-4, 6-2 count.

Mazzetto went to three sets in both of his matches. On Friday, he knocked off Dan Urban of Columbia, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Mazzetto was eliminated on Saturday with his three-set loss to Sasha Ermakov of Harvard, 2-6, 6-1, 6-1

The pair also combined for doubles play picking up a first-round victory over Jeremy McClelland and Alex Mast of Duquesne, 8-6. On Saturday, the duo bowed out in the second round with an 8-6 loss to Connor Dawson and Calvin Bennett of Yale.

The entire UB lineup is back in action at the Cornell Fall Invitational starting on October 31.
