NORTH TONAWANDA, NY – University at Buffalo men’s tennis tandem Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) and Kirill Kolomytes (Moscow, Russia/Moscow High School 155) captured the A flight doubles title on Sunday morning as the UB/Niagara Invitational came to a conclusion at the Sportsplex. Originally slated for the Niagara University outdoor courts, Sunday’s matches were moved to the Sportsplex in North Tonawanda after rain passed through the area overnight.
Singh Panthlia and Kolomytes scored their doubles win over the Niagara duo of Marc Dickinson and Walter Garcia by an 8-6 margin. The UB duo finished the three-day tournament with an undefeated 3-0 record after scoring a win over Niagara’s Alex Abji and Roman Silin in the quarterfinals and York’s Misha Lew and Peng Peng in Saturday’s semifinals. Two Bulls were in action in the singles semifinals in the main draw but dropped their matches. In the A flight, Singh Panthlia dropped a 6-1, 6-4 decision to Lew. Alexis Lluis (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Americano de Tabasco) lost his B flight semifinal match to Niagara’s Nick Bolea by a 6-3, 6-2 count. In a consolation round doubles match on Sunday morning, the UB duo of Eric Rothstein (Phoenixville, PA/Great Valley) and Ezra Bernstein (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) scored an 8-5 win over the St. Francis pair of John Angiouni and Ajay Nune. The Bulls are next in action at the ITA Regionals in Princeton, NJ starting October 18.
