Men's Tennis Continues Winning Ways

Bulls' Sweep Saint Peter's Peacocks, 7-0

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis program moved one step closer to going undefeated in its fall schedule with a 7-0 win over Saint Peter's College, Saturday at the UB Tennis Center.

"Once again, their hard work and efforts paid off," said Head Coach Russ Crispell. "They were able to maintain their focus through adversity."

UB started off strong with wins from two of its three doubles pairings. At first doubles, the tandem of freshman Fery Kasiman (Jakarta, Indonesia/Hilton Head Prep) and senior Budi Susanto (Bali, Indonesia/Hilton Head Prep) defeated Alex Taunean and Frank Strangeman of Saint Peter's, 8-4, for a win at first doubles. Next, at second doubles, the duo of senior David Emihovich (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) and junior Justin Brtko (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) defeated Patrick Mazurkiewicz and Benjamin Nandy, 8-4, to secure the doubles point for the Bulls.

The Bulls then moved on to singles competition, where they swept all six matches. At first singles, Susanto bested Taunean, 7-5, 6-1. After dropping the first set, Kasiman came back to take the next two for a three-set victory over Paul Teddy, 2-6, 6-1, 7-6. Also claiming three-set victories were Brtho and Emihovich. At fifth singles, junior Sean Kelley (Gorham, NY/Marcus Whitman), picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Nandy. Sophomore Brent Persia (Pembroke, NY/Pembroke), picked up a sixth-singles victory for UB 7-5, 6-4, over Pablo Manstany.

"Right now we have a tremendous opportunity," said Crispell. "Going undefeated is something that hasn't been done at this program since I've been here."

The Bulls next compete on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 1 p.m., against Youngstown State University at the UB Tennis Center. With the Saturday, Oct. 21, match being rescheduled in the spring season, the will be the Bulls' last fall competition.
