Bulls Roll to Eight Titles at Home Invite

The University at Buffalo's men's tennis team scored victories in eight of the 12 contested flights of the UB/Niagara Invitational, completed Saturday at UB’s University Tennis Center. There was no team scoring in the hidden duals format tournament that also included teams from Niagara and York University of Canada.

Six Singles Titles For the Bulls

The Bulls collected six of eight possible singles titles at the tournament, winning all but the first and second flights. Kirill Kolomyts (Moscow, Russia/Moscow High School 155) at number three, Kristof Custers (Balen, Belguim/European School of Mol) at number four, Juan Carlos Wynter (Puebla, Mexico/American School) at number five, Mitch Zenaty (Fairport, NY/Fairport) at number six, Alexis Lluis (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Americano de Tabasco) at number seven and Eric Rothstein (Phoenixville, PA/Great Valley) at number eight. All five went 2-0 in their matches against York and Niagara. York's Mikhail Lew and Tomohiro Ono won the top two singles flights, respectively.

Doubles Titles Split With Niagara

The Bulls also earned a pair of doubles titles in the third and fourth flights while Niagara was victorious in the first and second flights. Doubles flight winners for the Bulls included Kolomyts and Lluis at number three and Custers and Ezra Bernstein (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) at number four. Both duos swept to wins over Niagara and York. Niagara's top two doubles combos, Marc Dickinson and Roman Silin at number one and Joe Heckley and Steve Kopf at number two picked up the titles for the Purple Eagles.

Dartmouth Invitational Next on the Agenda

The Bulls are off to Hanover, NH starting October 3 for the Dartmouth Invitational. Other teams in the field for the three-day competition will include Army, Amherst, Niagara, Colgate, Williams, Loyola (MD) and the host Big Green.
