Men's Tennis Completes Dartmouth Invite
HANOVER, NH - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team completed a weekend in New Hampshire with four matches at the Volkl Shootout. Junior Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) and senior Rangga Prayudha (Jakarta, Indonesia/Hilton Head Prep) both went 3-1 in their singles matches in the three-day event. Zieziula, playing in the number three slot, defeated Army's Sebastian Salas 6-3, 6-2, and Colgate's Jake Heims, 6-1, 6-1. He also split a pair of matches with Dartmouth opponents, downing Raj Shrestha, 6-2, 7-6 (3), but falling in a hard-fought three-set match to Borko Kereshi, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Prayudha, in the number four position, defeated Michael Good of Army, 6-4, 6-2, and both Dartmouth opponents, Mark Brodie in a 6-4, 6-3 decision and David Waslan, winning tiebreakers in both sets of a 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5) contest. His only loss in the singles competition was to Colgate's Jon Bedard in three sets, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. Randy Rocchio (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) and Ivan Chamdani (Jakarta, Indonesia/Hilton Head Prep) split their four singles matches over the weekend. Three of Rocchio's matches went to three sets, including both wins over Dartmouth players at number two. Rocchio defeated Drew Dinkmeyer, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 and Andres Reyes, 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (4). Chamdani won both his matches in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 over Army's Kevin Harris and 6-2, 6-3 against Colgate's Brian Yellin. UB hosts the Can-Am Invitational starting Friday at 9 am at the UB Tennis Complex. The
Bulls will serve as hosts of the tournament on Friday and Saturday with the finals to be held at Niagara
University on Sunday, Sept. 28. |
