HANOVER, NH - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team got some strong performances in Dartmouth University's Volkl Shootout. There was no team scoring in the tournament which consisted of singles divided into eight flights based on individual play while the doubles consisted of four divisions. Teams from Army, Colgate, Niagara and host Dartmouth joined the Bulls in the field.

In singles action, sophomore Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornhill) scored three singles victories while Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis), Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) and Matt Kennedy (Mississaugua, Ontario/Erindale) each won two matches.

Rockman, playing in the B Division, dropped his opening match on Friday to Army's Sele Salas in a tiebreaker, 6-2, 1-6, 1-0 (10-4). He then rebounded on Saturday with straight set wins over Colgate's Marshall Wheeler, 6-2, 6-3 and Niagara's Jonathan Bozanich, 6-1, 6-1. On Sunday, Rockman needed a third-set tiebreaker to down Dartmouth's Steven McGaughey, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Zieziula scored an impressive win in his opening match, defeating Army's John Houghton in a tiebreaking third set, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8). After a pair of losses, Zieziula rebounded with a three-set win over Dartmouth's Dave Webb, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5. Hadisubroto went 2-2 overall with a victory in the C Division over Dartmouth's Logan West, 6-4, 6-0 and a D Division win on Sunday, 6-2, 6-1, over Niagara's Justin McConkey. Kennedy scored a pair of victories in his E Division matches. On Friday, Kennedy downed Army's Dave Collins, 6-4, 6-3 and followed with a tough two-set victory over Colgate's Chris Innes, 7-6, 7-5, on Saturday.

In doubles play, Josh Liederman (Queens Village, NY/Benjamin Cardozo) and Rockman combined for a 2-2 record in the B Doubles matches. The duo opened with a 9-7 loss to Dartmouth's Logan West and Priya Sahu, then withstood a tiebreaker against Niagara's Justin McConkey and Walter Garcia to take a 9-8 (7-4) win. The following day, the UB pair defeated Army's Eddie Kang and Alain Chuntraruk, 8-5, but fell to Colgate's Wheeler and Pete Oman, 8-4. Two Bulls duos each picked up a doubles win in the C Division. Randy Rocchio (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) combined with Kennedy for an 8-4 victory over Steven McGaughey and Travis Maiers of Dartmouth. Kennedy was also joined by Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) for an 8-3 win over Niagara's Alex Abji and Dave Reuter.

Because of their strong play over the weekend, the Bulls were invited to the Army Shootout Invitational, which will consist of Columbia, nationally-ranked Penn State and host Army as well as the UB netters. The tournament is slated for the weekend of October 16 and 17.
