Bulls Complete St. Bonaventure Invite Kolomyts, Lluis, Bernstein undefeated in singles play
ST. BONAVENTURE, NY – The University at Buffalo's men's tennis team completed play at the St. Bonaventure Fall Invite on Sunday with three players finishing undefeated in singles play. Junior Kirill Kolomyts (Moscow, Russia/Moscow High School 155) was 3-0 in his individual matches against foes from St. Bonaventure, St. Francis (PA) and Youngstown State. Senior Alexis Lluis (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Americano de Tabasco) and sophomore Ezra Bernstein (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) turned in 2-0 records in their matches against the Bonnies and the Red Flash. The two did not compete against Youngstown State due to YSU's limited roster. The tournament was played in a hidden duals format with singles play against one team and doubles matches against another squad during the session of play. Kolomyts, playing in the number two singles slot, needed a third-set tiebreaker to defeat St. Bonaventure's Leo Mochizuki. After Mochizuki won the opening set, 6-2, Kolomyts returned the favor with a 6-2 victory of his own in the second set. In the final set, Kolyomyts was able to break through with an 8-6 win in the tiebreaker to claim the set, 7-6. Lluis, playing at number six, and Bernstein, at number eight, won their matches over their St. Bonaventure opponents in straight sets. Lluis knocked off Enric Larregola, 7-5, 6-1 while Bernstein downed Tyler Reppert, 6-4, 6-3. The Bulls are off for the next three weeks before hosting the UB/Niagara Invitational the weekend of September 27-28.
