Men's Tennis Announces Awards
Kalinin,
Zenaty, Lluis, Mazzetto earn accolades
BUFFALO,
NY – The University at
Buffalo men’s tennis squad announced its team awards for the
2008-09 season. Alex
Kalinin earned the Top Newcomer
Award; Mitch
Zenaty was selected for the
team's Leadership Award; Alexis
Lluis received the
Coaches’ Award; and Marcelo
Mazzetto was named Most Valuable
Player.

Kalinin |
Kalinin joined the Bulls at the beginning of the second semester,
playing in UB's dual meet spring campaign. The freshman finished with
an 8-8 singles record and was 7-10 in doubles play. Kalinin played in
the number three singles slot collecting seven victories.

Mitch
Zenaty |
Zenaty earned nine singles wins and nine doubles wins in his first
season with the Bulls. Named a team captain, he transferred to UB
following one season at Division II Bloomsburg. Zenaty was 6-5 in
tournament play during the fall, winning the sixth singles flight at
the UB/Niagara Invitational and making the singles consolation
semifinal round at the Cornell Wicked Tournament.

Alexis
Lluis |
Lluis, a senior, played two seasons with the Bulls, competing in the
fourth and sixth slots in singles. Lluis collected 16 singles and 13
doubles wins in his two seasons with the Bulls after transferring from
Drury University. Lluis was consistent on the court in his two years at
UB, scoring eight singles wins in both 2007-08 and 2008-09.

Marcelo
Mazzetto |
Mazzetto finished the 2008-09 campaign with double-digit wins in both
singles and doubles, seeing action at the number one slot in both
disciplines. In singles play, Mazzetto was 17-14
overall and 9-7 in dual meets from the number one position. He also
accumulated a 17-8 doubles record, including a 15-6 mark with partner
Kirill
Kolomyts.
The Bulls completed their
season with a 7-11 overall record and were 1-4 in MAC competition.
