Pair of Bulls Named to All-MAC Men's Tennis Team

Kirill Kolomyts and Marcelo Mazzetto both earn second-team honors

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's tennis players Kirill Kolomyts and Marcelo Mazzetto have been named to the All-Mid-American Conference Second Team, the league announced following the completion of the league championship tournament held in Buffalo.

Kolomyts, who spent much of the season at second singles, led the Bulls with a 20-10 singles record and a 20-7 doubles mark in the 2008-09 season. Mazzetto, the Bulls' first singles player, was second on the team with an 17-14 singles mark and 17-8 doubles record. As UB's top-seeded doubles tandem, Kolomyts and Mazzetto compiled a 15-6 record, including an 11-3 record during the spring semester.

This is the first time that two Bulls have been named to the All-MAC squad since Nick Zieziula and Mike Rockman were selected second-team honorees in 2005.

Joining Kolomyts and Mazzetto on the All-MAC Second Team are Jose Perdomo and Cliff Morrison of Ball State, Pawel Poziomski and Javier Bernabe of Northern Illinois and Toledo's Knot Likitumchorn.

First team honorees included Kevin Hayward, Michael Calderone and Kazuya Komada of Western Michigan, Eduardo Pavia of Ball State, Jurica Grubisic of Northern Illinois and Jared Miller of Toledo.

The league also released its All-Tournament squad with league champion Western Michigan represented by tournament MVP Calderone and Komada. Toledo's Miller and Aleksander Elezovic represented the Rockets along with Ball State's Jorge Rodriguez and Jurica Grubisic of Northern Illinois.

Western Michigan's Hayward was seleted as the MAC Player of the Year with Poziomski winning the league's Newcomer of the Year honors. Dave Morin of Western Michigan was named MAC Coach of the Year for the eighth time in his career and Miller picked up the league's Jack Vredevelt Sportsmanship Award .

The Bulls finished 7-11 overall with a 1-4 MAC record.
