Bulls Close Season at MAC Quarterfinals
The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team’s 2008-09
season came to a conclusion in the quarterfinal round of the
Mid-American Conference Championships with a 4-0 loss to Ball State.
The Bulls, the fifth seed in the six-team tournament, ended the season
with a 7-11 overall record. The Bulls were 1-4 in MAC play. The match
against the Cardinals was played indoors at the Village Glen Tennis
Center in Williamsville after chilly temperatures and wet courts forced
the move from the University Tennis Center.
20/20 For Kolomyts

Kirill Kolomyts |
Junior
Kirill
Kolomyts did not figure in either decision in his singles or
doubles matches against Ball State at the MAC Tournament. Kolomyts and
doubles partner
Marcelo
Mazzetto had forged a 6-6 tie in the number one match against
BSU’s Jose Perdomo and Zane Smith when play was abandoned after
the Cardinals secured the doubles point. Kolomyts was a set a down but
had tied the second set, 4-4, in the number two singles match against
Perdomo when play was abandoned. Kolomyts led the Bulls with 20 singles
wins and 20 doubles victories in the 2008-09 season. As a doubles
tandem, Kolomyts and Mazzetto compiled a 15-6 record. The duo was 11-3
in the dual meet season during the spring semester and also went 3-1 in
MAC matches.
A Double-Double For Mazzetto

Marcelo Mazzetto |
Playing in the number one positions in both singles and doubles
competitions, sophomore Marcelo Mazzetto finished the 2008-09 campaign
with double-digit wins in both disciplines, falling just short of the
20-win plateau. In singles play, Mazzetto was 17-14 overall and 9-7 in
dual meets from the number one position. He also accumulated a 17-8
doubles record, including a 15-6 mark with partner Kirill Kolomyts.
Saying Goodbye to the Senior Class

Alexis Lluis |
The Bulls graduate a pair of seniors off the 2008-09 team.
Octavian
Stane played four seasons (2005-09) for the Bulls anywhere between
the number three and six positions on the singles ladder. Stane
finished his career with 46 singles wins and 36 doubles triumphs, both
totals among the top 10 in UB’s Division I history. He collected
17 singles wins in the 2006-07 season. UB’s other senior,
Alexis
Lluis played two seasons with the Bulls, competing in the fourth
and sixth slots in singles. Lluis collected 16 singles and 13 doubles
wins in his two seasons with the Bulls after transferring from Drury
University. Lluis was consistent on the court in his two years at UB,
scoring eight singles wins in both 2007-08 and 2008-09.
