Men's Tennis Eliminated From MAC Tournament

Bulls Close Season With a 4-0 Loss to Bowling Green

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team dropped its Mid-American Conference Tournament first-round matchup against Bowling Green, 4-0, this morning.

The loss ends the Bulls' season, finishing with a 14-7 overall record and an 0-6 MAC record.

The third-seeded Falcons defeated the Bulls with wins at third, fifth and sixth singles and the at second and third doubles to take the doubles point.

Junior captain Justin Brtko (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) and senior Dave Emihovich (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) were defeated in their second-doubles match, 8-4.

Junior Tim Powell (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) and sophomore Brent Persia (Pembroke, NY/Pembroke) dropped the third-doubles match, 8-4.

Senior Budi Susanto (Bali, Indonesia/Hilton Head Prep) and sophomore Fery Kasiman (Jakarta, Indonesia/Hilton Head Prep) were leading their first doubles match, 8-7, when the match was stopped.

At third singles, Brtko, was defeated, 6-0, 6-2, while junior Sean Kelley (Gorham, NY/Marcus Whitman) dropped his fifth-singles match, 6-1, 6-1. The Falcons closed out their victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win at sixth singles over Powell.

At second singles, Kasiman was ahead 6-4, 1-2 when the match was stopped. Additionally, at first singles, Susanto was down, 6-4, 3-1 at the time the match was stopped and Emihovich was losing 6-0, 4-1.

Bowling Green advances to the semifinals where it will take on host Western Michigan on Friday.
