Bulls Fall to Bearcats in Regular Season Finale

The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team finished the regular season on Friday afternoon with a 5-2 loss to three-time defending America East champion Binghamton. UB used the match as a warmup to this week’s Mid-American Conference Championships, sitting out key players due to injury and giving the reserves some court time.

UB picked up singles wins in the number one and two matches for their lone victories against Binghamton. At number one, Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornlea) rolled to a straight-sets win over Richemn Mourad, 6-3, 6-4. Meanwhile, Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) needed a super-tiebreaker to defeat Brian O’Connor in three sets. Singh Panthlia won the opening set, 6-3, but fell in the second set, 6-4, before winning the 10-point breaker, 11-9.

Fourth-Seeded Bulls Head for MAC Tourney

UB heads into this week’s MAC Championships in Toledo as the fourth seed among the six member schools. The Bulls open play in the single-elimination tournament on Thursday against fifth-seeded Northern Illinois. UB defeated the Huskies, 4-3, on April 14. If UB wins, the Bulls will move on to face top seed Ball State, currently ranked 64th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, on Friday in the semifinal round. UB has advanced to the MAC semifinals in each of the last two seasons. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 pm with the winner earning the MAC’s automatic berth in the NCAA Championships.
