Bulls End Regular Season With Back-To-Back LossesBUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team lost its final regular season matches this weekend, dropping road matches to Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. The Bulls' finish the regular season with a 14-6 overall record and an 0-5 Mid-American Conference record. "We had many opportunities over the weekend," said head coach Russ Crispell. "With each and every match, we are moving closer towards our goal of a MAC victory. We had a very remarkable regular season and were in many of the matches." Western Michigan defeated the Bulls, 7-0, with a sweep of the doubles and singles matches while UB dropped a 5-2 match to Northern Illinois. Senior Budi Susanto (Bali, Indonesia/Hilton Head Prep) and sophomore Fery Kasiman (Jakarta, Indonesia/Hilton Head Prep) dropped both of the first-doubles matches over the weekend, losing 8-2 to the Broncos and then 8-4 to the Huskies. Junior captain Justin Brtko (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) and senior Dave Emihovich (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) were defeated in both of their second-doubles matches, 8-2 to WMU and 8-3 to NIU. Juniors Sean Kelley (Gorham, NY/Marcus Whitman) and Tim Powell (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) dropped the third-doubles match, 8-1, against Western Michigan, while Kelley and sophomore Brent Persia (Pembroke, NY/Pembroke) dropped the third-doubles match against Northern Illinois, 8-1. At first singles, Susanto dropped both weekend matches, 6-4, 6-4 to WMU and then 7-5, 6-3 to NIU. Kasiman also dropped both of his weekend matches, losing 6-2, 6-2 to WMU and then 6-4, 7-6 to NIU. At third singles, Brtko dropped his first match to WMU, 6-3, 6-2, however notched a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory against Northern Illinois' Brent Sitarski. Emihovich and Kelley, playing fourth and fifth singles, respectively, both went 0-2 in singles matches this weekend. At sixth singles, Powell was defeated 6-1, 6-1 against WMU but was able to pull out a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory against Northern Illinois' Ryan Schnack. The Bulls' next competition is the first round of the MAC Tournament on Thursday, April 26,
at Western Michigan where the Bulls will play Bowling Green. |
