Men's Tennis Defeats St. Francis, 5-2

Bulls Sweep Doubles Matches and Four of Six Singles Matches Against the Red Flash

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team picked up a non-conference victory over St. Francis at the Amherst Hills Tennis Center, on Friday, April 16. The Bulls' record is now 12-3 overall and 0-2 in conference competition for the year.

With a sweep in the doubles matches and victories in four of the six singles matches, the Bulls were able to notch a 5-2 victory.

Senior Budi Susanto (Bali, Indonesia/Hilton Head Prep) and sophomore Fery Kasiman (Jakarta, Indonesia/Hilton Head Prep) started the Bulls off on the right track with an 8-2 win at first doubles over Mark Willis and Israel Guterrez.

At second doubles, junior captain Justin Brtko (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) and senior Dave Emihovich (Getzville, NY/Williamsville North) followed up UB's first doubles win with an 8-4 win over Shaheed Mahomed and Jay Moore to clinch the doubles point.

Junior Tim Powell (Rochester, NY/Irondequoit) and sophomore Brent Persia (Pembroke, NY/Pembroke) completed the sweep at third doubles, with an 8-3 victory over Zachary Hughes and Kevin Sommers.

In singles competition, UB posted wins at first, second, third and sixth singles.

Susanto began the three match sweep with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Willis, while Kasiman followed with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Guterrez. At third singles Brtko defeated Mahomed 6-0, 6-1.

Persia picked up the Bulls' fourth and final singles victory at sixth singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Sommers.

The Bulls' next competition is Monday, April 16, at the UB Tennis Center, against local-rival Canisius College.
