Bulls Blank Griffins, 7-0

UB men's tennis team rolls to easy victory over crosstown rivals

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis did not lose a set in rolling to an easy 7-0 victory over Canisius College Thursday afternoon at UB's University Tennis Center in the Bulls' home finale. With the win, the Bulls improve to 12-11 overall while the Golden Griffins drop to 4-6.

UB opened the match by winning the doubles point with little trouble, sweeping all three contests. The number one team of Randy Rocchio (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) and Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) blanked Canisius' Kurt Felgemacher and Greg Kingston, 8-0. At number two, UB's Fery Kasiman (Jakarta, Indonesia/ESI International Academy) and Rohan Raikar (Albany, NY/Albany) defeated James Ford and Billy Kaputa, 8-1. The third doubles squad of Josh Liederman (Queens Village, NY/Benjamin Cardozo) and Rangga Prayudha (Jakarata, Indonesia/ESI International Academy) downed Philip Eichner and Kyle Hejmowski, 8-2.

The singles matches also proved to be easy wins for the Bulls. Kasiman knocked off Felgemacher, 6-1, 6-3, in the number one match. Rocchio breezed past Kingston, 6-0, 6-1, at number two. Liederman defeated Kaputa at number three, 6-1, 6-3. Prayhuda was challenged by Eichner in the first set, prevailing by a 7-5 score, then went on to sweep the second set, 6-0. Mike Zappone (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) picked up his first victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ford at number five. Chris Pyke (Watertown, NY/Watertown) registered his first dual-meet win of the year with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat of Hejmowski at number six.

UB travels to Stony Brook April 18 to close out the regular season. The Mid-American Conference Championships follow beginning April 24 in DeKalb, IL.
