In Saturday’s match against NIU, UB’s lone win came in the doubles competition. The number three tandem of Kirill Kolomyts (Moscow, Russia/Moscow High School 155) and Alexis Lluis (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Americano de Tabasco) knocked off NIU’s Alfonso Monroy and Matt Hansen by an 8-5 score. However, the Bulls were unable to claim the doubles point, dropping both the number one and two matches by identical 8-2 scores.

With two regular season matches and at least one contest in the Mid-American Conference Championships remaining for the Bulls in the 2008 season, junior Octavian Stane (Toronto, Ontario/Leaside) is close to reaching the top 10 in both singles and doubles victories. Stane is currently tied for 11th in both categories with 37 singles wins and 30 doubles triumphs. In singles play, Andrew Garber (1995-99) is 10th with 39 wins while Stane and Budi Susanto (1998-01) are 11th with 37. Albert Alant (2003-07) and Josh Liederman (2001-05) each scored 31 doubles wins in their careers to hold down a ninth-place tie, with Garber eighth at 32 wins. Meanwhile, Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) is fifth on UB’s doubles chart with 48 wins, two behind Yules Hadisubroto’s (2003-07) 50 and three off Randy Rocchio’s (2001-05) 51.

Heading to Indiana

The Bulls head to the Hoosier State of Indiana this week for a pair of matches to conclude the regular season. The Bulls complete their MAC schedule at Ball State on Sunday, April 13, starting at 1:00 pm. UB then finishes the regular season with a contest against top junior college program Vincennes on Monday, April 14 at 9:00 am. After a week’s rest, the Bulls then head for the MAC Championships in DeKalb, IL on Friday, April 25.
