Men's Tennis Team Downed at NIU

Bulls fall 6-1 to Huskies in Mid-American Conference play

AURORA, IL - The University at Buffalo's men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Northern Illinois in Mid-American Conference competition on Sunday afternoon. The loss pushes UB's record to 9-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.

The Bulls' lone victory of the day came in the fourth singles match as freshman Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) dispatched of Jan Perlman, 6-1, 7-5.

UB dropped the rest of the singles matches as Fery Kasiman (Jakarta, Indonesia/ESI International Academy) was defeated by Raymond van Wasbeck, 6-0, 6-1 at number one. Randy Rocchio (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) fell to Juan-Pablo Barriga, 6-3, 6-0 at number two. Justin Brtko (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) was defeated by Erick Martinez, 6-1, 6-1 at number three. Josh Liederman (Queens, NY/Benjamin Cardozo) fell to David Pickel at number five, 6-0, 6-1. Sean Kelley (Gorham, NY/Marcus Whitman) was defeated at number six by Tim Freesen, 6-4, 6-2.

Northern Illinois swept the doubles competition. Kasiman and Brtko lost at number one to van Wasbeck and Aaron Forsberg, 8-6. Rocchio and Zieziula were downed by Barriga and Martinez, 8-2, at number two. Rohan Raikar (Albany, NY/Albany) and Liederman fell to Pickel and Paul Glendenning, 8-3, at number three.

The Bulls are off until April 16 when they host local rival Canisius at the UB Tennis Center starting at 3:00 p.m.
