Men's Tennis Falls to Huskies, 7-0

Bulls suffer sweep at hands of Mid-American Conference rivals

DeKALB, IL - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team fell to Northern Ilinois, 7-0, in Mid-American Conference play on Saturday. The Bulls are now 7-10 overall and 1-2 in the MAC while the Huskies are 13-3, 1-0.

UB was unable to claim any victories on Saturday, dropping all nine matches. In the doubles, NIU's number one team of Willy Gali and Aaron Forsberg defeated UB's Randy Rocchio (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) and Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21), 8-1. At number two, Erick Martinez and Juan Pablo Barriga downed Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) and Albert Alant (Pretoria, South Africa/Niskayuna (NY)), 8-5. The number three team of Jack Komar and Stephen Guntly dropped UB's Rangga Prayudha (Jakarta, Indonesia/ESI International Academy/Ventura College) and Josh Liederman (Queens Village, NY/Benjamin Cardozo), 8-4.

Northern Illinois took all six singles matches in straight sets. At number one, Gali defeated Rocchio, 6-3, 6-0. At number two, Barriga downed Zieziula, 6-3, 6-2. UB's Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornhill) was defeated by Martinez, 6-0, 6-2, at number three. At number four, Liederman fell to Komar, 6-1, 6-1. At number five, Forsberg defeated Prayudha, 6-1, 6-1. The sweep was completed when Guntly downed Hadisubroto, 6-1, 6-2, at number six.

The Bulls travel to Ball State for a Sunday match. Match time is 1:00 pm in Muncie, IN.
