Swept on Midwest Trek
The University at Buffalo Bulls dropped both of its Mid-American Conference matches on the final road trip of the season. UB lost a hard-fought match Saturday afternoon to Toledo, 6-1, as four of the six singles matches were decided in three sets. The Bulls were defeated at Western Michigan on Sunday by a 7-0 score although they did capture one of the three doubles matches.

In Saturday’s match at Toledo, the Bulls captured one match in the doubles competition but were unable to claim the point. UB’s number three tandem of
Octavian Stane and
Alex Kalinin scored a 7-4 tiebreaker win to defeat Jayson Miller and Aleksander Elezovic. In singles play,
Kirill Kolomyts scored the lone point for UB with his 6-3, 6-4 win over Sven Burus in the number two match. It was his 20th singles victory of the season, the most in singles play for the Bulls this season.

Four of the six singles matches against Toledo went three sets with the Rockets sweeping all four.
Marcelo Mazzetto, at number one, Kalinin, at three, and
Kristof Custers, at four, went three full sets as all three Bulls were defeated. Stane, playing in the number five match, lost to Gursher Harika in a super-tiebreaker. Mazzetto won a second-set tiebreaker over Toledo’s Jared Miller before falling in the final set, 6-1. Kalinin opened his match against Nuthavit Likitkumchorn with a 6-4 first-set win, but fell in the next two sets. Custers exended Aleksander Elezovic following his 6-3 win in the second set, falling 6-1, in the deciding set. Stane and Harika exchanged 6-4 decisions in the first two sets before embarking on the super-tiebreaker, won by Harika 10-7, to finish the match.
Bucked by the Broncos

UB fell 7-0 at Western Michigan although the Bulls did capture one of the three doubles matches. The lone win for the Bulls came from Kolomyts and Mazzetto at first doubles as they scored a 7-3 tiebreaker win over Michael Calderone and Kazuya Komada for the 8-7 win. Western Michigan won the doubles point with victories in the number two and three matches.
Home to Stay
Last weekend’s road trip marked the final time this season that the Bulls will play away from home. UB enters a three-match homestand to close out the regular season, following by the hosting duties of the 2009 Mid-American Conference Championships. UB faces Ball State on Saturday, April 4 at 5:00 pm. The Bulls then face MAC rival Northern Illinois (April 12) and Oswego State (April 18) on the next two weekends.
