Yules Hadisubroto, Albert Alant score singles wins in 5-2 loss to Broncos

KALAMAZOO, MI – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team opened a two-match weekend in Kalamazoo with a 5-2 loss to Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan, ranked 50th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Bulls are now 4-11 (0-2 in the MAC). Western Michigan improved to 12-7 (2-0 MAC).
UB's lone victories came in singles matches and both were decided in third-set super-tiebreakers. In the number four match, senior Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) knocked off Alex Birchmeier. Hadisubroto won the first set in a tiebreaker and then scored a 10-6 win in the third-set super-tiebreaker for his 14th singles win of the year.
Albert Alant
In the number five match, senior Albert Alant (Pretoria, South Africa/Niskayuna (NY)) scored a similar victory to Hadisubroto's. Alant defeated Bryan Norville in a first set tiebreaker to gain the upper hand in the contest. After Norville forced the super-tiebreaker, Alant was able to score an 11-9 win in the third set.
On Saturday, UB faces Kalamazoo College, one of the top-ranked schools in Division III. The match is slated to start at 10:00 am.
