WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 non-conference decision to Manhattan College Saturday night at the Village Glen Tennis Center, snapping UB's five-match winning streak. The Bulls are now 8-5 while the Jaspers improve to 6-5.

The Bulls picked up a pair of singles victories in the contest. At second singles, junior Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornlea) played a marathon two-setter against Manhattan's Zolton Bus, defeating the Romanian, 7-5, 6-4 to gain UB's first point of the match.

At sixth singles, freshman Fred Duncan (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) rallied past Mathias Kruttli, 6-3, 6-3. Duncan trailed 3-2 in both the first and second sets before winning the final four games in both sets to take the match.

The remainder of the singles matches went to Manhattan. At number one, UB's Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) fell to Bogdan Borta, 6-2, 6-1. At number three, Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) was defeated by Peter Czink, 6-0, 6-3. Albert Alant (Pretoria, South Africa/Niskayuna (NY)), at number four, dropped a 7-6 (2), 6-4 decision to Diego Alvarado. In the number five match, UB's Matt Kennedy (Mississauga, Ontario/Erindale) took Filip Szymik to three sets before losing 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.

Manhattan opened the match by sweeping the three doubles contests. Czink and Borta downed Hadisubroto and Singh Panthlia, 8-5, at number one. Bus and Szymik defeated Alant and Kennedy, 8-5, at number two. Alvarado and K-Ming Lee, at number three, knocked off Duncan and Alejandro Galindo (Torreon, Mexico/Preparatoria Tec).

The match was head coach Russ Crispell's final home appearance as mentor of the Bulls. Crispell is retiring from coaching at the end of the season but will remain in the UB family as its Coordinator of Outdoor Pursuits.

The Bulls travel to Ball State next Saturday for a 1:00 pm match with the league-rival Cardinals.
