Bulls Fall to Bonnies, 4-3, in Men's Tennis

OLEAN, NY – The University at Buffalo dropped a tight 4-3 decision to Western New York rival St. Bonaventure in men’s tennis action on Saturday at the Olean Racquet Club. The Bulls are now 4-7 in dual meet play while St. Bonaventure is 11-10 for the combined fall and spring campaigns.

The Bulls dropped the doubles point, picking up one win in the three contests. The number one team of Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) and Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) knocked off Mario Arce and Nikhil Murali, 8-2 while UB’s number two team of Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornlea) and Josh Liederman (Queens Village, NY/Benjamin Cardozo) fell to Alejandro Nery and Andrew Hart by an identical 8-2 score.

The point was decided in the number three match. UB’s Albert Alant (Pretoria, South Africa/Niskayuna (NY)) and Matt Kennedy (Mississauga, Ontario/Erindale) forced Dejan Stankovic and Antonio Faries into a tiebreaker before falling 9-8 (6).

The squads split the singles matches. Rockman, Hadisubroto and Kennedy picked up wins for the Bulls. Rockman, at number two, defeated Nery, 6-1, 6-1. At number three, Hadisubroto downed Murali, 6-2, 6-3. Kennedy breezed past Sajeel Qureshi, 6-1, 6-3, at number six.

Zieziula was defeated by Arce in the first singles match, 6-3, 6-4. At number four, Liederman fell to Hart, 7-5, 6-2. At number five, Alant won the first set against Stankovic, 6-4, but dropped the final two sets, 6-4, 6-0.

UB opens Mid-American Conference play on Saturday, March 26 when the Bulls host Toledo at 6:00 pm at the Village Glen Tennis Center.
