Bulls Bow to George Washington

The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team fell to George Washington University, 4-1, on Saturday at the St. Bonaventure Indoor Courts. Due to the limited number of courts, the match was called once the Colonials scored the decisive fourth point.

UB junior Octavian Stane (Toronto, Ontario/Leaside) scored singles and doubles victories for the Bulls on Saturday against the Colonials. Stane and partner Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) defeated Ryan Hunter and Mustafa Gencsoy, 8-5, in the number one doubles match, although the Bulls were unable to claim the doubles point. In singles play, Stane, at number three, scored a straight-sets win over GW’s Elliott Daniels, 6-2, 6-4.

Two Matches Go Three Sets

Two of the matches went to three sets with the Bulls falling in both contests. At number four, Alexis Lluis (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Americano de Tabasco) lost to Chris Kushma, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 while at number five, Juan Carlos Wynter (Puebla, Mexico/American School) was defeated by Ryan Schlachter, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.

After George Washington had claimed the fourth point to win the match, play was stopped with two contests still in progress. Singh Panthlia led his match against Yan Levinski, 2-1, at number one and the number two match between Marcelo Mazzetto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Carlos Magno) and Erik Hannah was tied at 6-6 in the first set when play was halted.

Off to Pittsburgh for a Pair of Weekend Clashes

The Bulls travel to Pittsburgh this weekend for non-conference matches with Robert Morris and Duquesne. UB takes on another team of Colonials in Robert Morris on Saturday at 4:00 pm. They will then face the Duquesne Dukes on Easter Sunday at noon. UB is 9-1 all-time against Robert Morris, although the Colonials defeated the Bulls in their last meeting in the 1999-2000 campaign. UB is 6-10 against the Dukes, but have won the last three meetings.
