The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team fell to homestanding St. Bonaventure, 4-3, Sunday afternoon in a showdown between Western New York squads at the St. Bonaventure Tennis Center. The Bulls are now 7-6 overall.
Doubles Squad on a Roll
Kirill Kolomyts
The Bulls scored one win in the doubles against St. Bonaventure as the number one duo of Marcelo Mazzetto and Kirill Kolomyts rolled to an 8-2 win over Jonathan Luce and Chris Post. Mazzetto and Kolomyts have now won four consecutive matches as a doubles tandem. The duo is 12-5 overall this season and 8-2 in dual matches as the number one pair.

With a little more than a month remaining in the regular season, a pair of Bulls are headed toward 20 wins. Kolomyts leads the Bulls with 19 singles wins in the 2008-09 season with Mazzetto collecting 16. Kolomyts has also earned 17 doubles wins with Mazzetto earning 14 and as a duo they have won 12 matches. Kolomyts’ singles win on Sunday against St. Bonaventure’s Jonathan Luce was the 40th of his career, putting him just two victories away from tying Kevin Humphrey for 10th place. Mazzetto now has 31 singles wins and has moved into the top 20 all-time in less than two seasons. Octavian Stane is currently eighth all-time with 46 singles wins, passing Randy Rocchio’s 45 during the spring break trip.
Conference Call
The Bulls are off this week but return to action the weekend of March 28 and 29 as they travel to meet Mid-American Conference opponents Toledo and Western Michigan. It will be the last time that UB is away from home this season. The entire month of April is a homestand as the Bulls host conference foes Ball State and Northern Illinois as well as Oswego State to complete the regular season. They also host the MAC Championships starting April 23.
