ST. BONAVENTURE, NY – The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team fell to George Washington University, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at the St. Bonaventure Indoor Courts. Due to the limited number of courts, the match was called once Colonials scored the decisive fourth point.

George Washington picked up the doubles point with two of three victories. UB scored a win in the number one match as Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) and Octavian Stane (Toronto, Ontario/Leaside) defeated Ryan Hunter and Mustafa Gencsoy, 8-5.

With only four courts at the St. Bonaventure facility, the teams agreed to start with lower matches and number one and two matches when courts became available. UB won the number three match as Stane scored a straight-sets win over GW’s Elliott Daniels, 6-2, 6-4.

Two of the matches went to three sets with the Bulls falling in both contests. At number four, Alexis Lluis (Mexico City, Mexico/Colegio Americano de Tabasco) lost to Chris Kushma, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 while at number five, Juan Carlos Wynter (Puebla, Mexico/American School) was defeated by Ryan Schlachter, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Singh Panthlia led his match against Yan Levinski, 2-1, at number one and the number two match between Marcelo Mazzetto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Carlos Magno) and Erik Hannah was tied at 6-6 in the first set when play was halted.

The Bulls travel to Pittsburgh next weekend for non-conference matches with Robert Morris and Duquesne.
