Bulls Down Pacers in Men's Tennis Action
AIKEN, SC - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team opened its three-match spring break road trip with a 4-3 win over Division II South Carolina-Aiken to give head coach Russ Crispell his 100th dual-meet victory. The Bulls are now 6-7 while the Pacers are 7-5. The Bulls clinched the match with three singles victories as well as the doubles point. UB junior Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) closed out the win for the Bulls with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win at second singles over Pierre Negri. Other singles winners for the Bulls included Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornhill) at number three over Fernando Guevara, 6-4, 7-6 and number six Rangga Prayudha (Jakarta, Indonesia/ESI International Academy/Ventura College) with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win over Carlos Huerta.
Now in his 11th season, Crispell is 100-92 as men's head coach. He trails only longtime coach Bill Sanford (1949-73) on the all-time victory list. Sanford won 226 matches in 24 seasons with the Bulls. The Bulls continue the spring break trip with a pair of matches in Florida as they travel to Barry University in Miami and Stetson University in DeLand.
