ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo’s men’s tennis team dropped a 7-0 non-conference decision to Cornell Friday night at the Reis Tennis Center in Ithaca. UB fell to 4-6 overall while Cornell improved to 6-3 in dual match play.

The match opened with the Big Red taking the doubles point by sweeping the Bulls in all three matches. UB’s number one team of Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) and Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) gave Cornell’s Nick Brunner and Josh Raff the stiffest test of the three matches, eventually falling 8-6 in a tiebreaker for the 9-8 Cornell decision. UB’s other doubles squads dropped identical 8-3 decisions. At number two, Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornlea) and Josh Liederman (Queens Village, NY/Benjamin Cardozo) fell to Dan Brous and Brett McKeon. The number three team of Albert Alant (Pretoria, South Africa/Niskayuna (NY)) and Matt Kennedy (Mississauga, Ontario/Erindale) lost to Ray Wu and Matt Cherner-Ranft.

UB was also swept in singles play with five of the six matches going to Cornell in straight sets. Rockman picked up a set against Tongle Yu in the number two match but lost the supertiebreaker, 10-5, for the 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-5) decision. At number one, Zieziula fell to McKeon, 6-2, 6-2. At number three, Hadisubroto lost to Wu, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Liederman, at number four, fell to Cherner-Ranft, 6-4, 7-5. At number five, Alant was defeated by Kevin Jay, 6-2, 7-5, while Kennedy lost to Charn Bak, 6-1, 6-1, in the number six match.

Up next for the Bulls is a road match at St. Bonaventure on March 19.
