Bulls Bow to Blue Demons, 7-0

CHICAGO, IL – The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team opened its weekend spring break trip to the midwest with a 7-0 loss at Big East member DePaul on Friday night. The Bulls are now 3-8 while the Blue Demons are 9-6.

UB was swept in five of the six singles matches in straight sets with Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) winning a set at number one to force a third-set super-tiebreaker. Singh Panthlia’s 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (5) loss to DePaul’s Austin Doerner snapped the senior’s eight match winning streak in singles play.

UB also got strong play from Marcelo Mazzetto (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Carlos Magno) at number two and Octavian Stane (Toronto, Ontario/Leaside) at number three as they were able to keep their matches tight against their opponents. Mazzetto fell to Jose Moncada, 6-3, 6-2 while Stane was defeated by Vanja Grgec, 6-4, 6-4.

The Bulls remain in the Chicagoland area where they will face Illinois-Chicago on Saturday night at 7:00 pm (ET).
