Bulls Open Southern Trip With 4-3 Loss to Owls Men’s tennis sees four match win streak stopped
KENNESAW, GA – The University at Buffalo men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to Kennesaw State on the first day of their three-match weekend swing through Georgia and Alabama. UB (7-3) dropped the opening doubles point to the Owls (3-4), although the number one tandem of Marcelo Mazzetto and Kirill Kolomyts scored an 8-2 win over Michael Langel and Tyler Mills. Mazzetto, Alex Kalinin and Octavian Stane scored singles wins with straight set victories. Kalinin won his match with a second-set tiebreaker at number three while Stane won a first-set tiebreaker at number five. The match was decided at fourth singles as Kristof Custers and Langel played three sets. After dropping the opening set, 6-2, Custers came back to win the second set, 6-4, and force a deciding third set. The match went to a tiebreaker in the third set but Custers could not gain the momentum, falling 7-4 in the tiebreaker to end the match. The Bulls travel to south to Macon for tomorrow’s match at Mercer. Start time is slated for 1:00 pm.
