Long Day’s Journey Into Night

The Bulls got two for the price of one on Friday with a day-night doubleheader against two of the toughest teams they’ll face this season. UB opened with a 7-0 loss to Western Michigan in the first Mid-American Conference match of the season. Then UB fell to Cornell, 5-1, in a non-league tilt. Both Western Michigan and Cornell are ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s national poll.

Juggling the Lineup

Head coach Russ Crispell moved his lineup around on Friday in an attempt to counter the strong Western Michigan and Cornell squads. Sophomore Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) moved up to the number one slot while Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornlea) took the second spot. Matt Kennedy (Mississauga, Ontario/Erindale) took over the number three slot and Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) slid into the fourth spot. Spots five and six remained the same with Albert Alant (Pretoria, South Africa/Niskayuna (NY)) and Fred Duncan (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) remaining in the places they have occupied since the beginning of the spring campaign. However, all the juggling didn’t help matters as Rockman was the lone Bull to record a win on Friday, a 6-2, 6-4 win over Cornell’s Joshua Goldstein in the nightcap.

A Week Off to Prepare for the Dukes

The Bulls host Duquesne on March 11 at 6:00 pm in their next action. This gives the UB team more than two weeks to prepare for their showdown with Duquesne. The Dukes are 6-5, following weekend matches at Dayton and Wright State. They will be coming into Buffalo after a four-match spring break trip to Florida.
