Rocchio Signs With UB Men's Tennis

Bulls Get First Early Signee Ever

BUFFALO, NY -University at Buffalo head coach Russ Crispell has announced the signing of Randy Rocchio (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) to the men's tennis program. Rocchio is an early signee and will attend UB in the fall.

Rocchio, a 6-4, 160-pound senior at Williamsville East, chose to attend UB because of its reputation as a good academic school and because of the recent success that the tennis team has experienced. Rocchio is a two-time ECIC Champion, two-time Section VI Champion and has not lost a high school match besides New York State Tournament Competition. Rocchio is also ranked second in Western New York in Men's Open competition.

"This year our goal was to sign a player early," said Crispell. "This is the first time that we have ever had an early signee. Randy is a hometown product who is known locally and also nationally. He's a tall, quick player with an extremely powerful serve. We look for Randy as an incoming freshman to make immediate strides and become part of the team."

The men's tennis team is currently 9-0. After completing a 7-0 fall season, the Bulls started off their spring season with back-to-back wins over Binghamton University and the University of Rochester. Crispell and his squad travel to Florida for matches next week against Rollins College, perenially ranked in the top five in the nation in Division II, and against St. Joseph's. UB then returns home for the start of Mid-American Conference competition against Toledo at the UB Tennis Center on Sunday, March 18, at 1 p.m.
