Bulls Drop Pair in New England

A two-day, two-city swing through New England didn’t have the results that the University at Buffalo’s men’s tennis team would have hoped for over the weekend. The Bulls lost both of their matches on Saturday, falling 4-2 at Boston College in the morning and then traveling to Providence where they were knocked off by 57th-ranked Brown, 6-1. With the two losses, UB evens its record at 4-4.

In UB’s matchup with Atlantic Coast Conference member Boston College, freshman Kirill Kolomytes (Moscow, Russia/Moscow High School 155) provided the offense for the Bulls, scoring doubles and singles wins. Kolomytes paired with Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) to defeat Sam Wagner and Soma Kesthely, 8-6, and help the Bulls to claim the doubles point. Kolomytes also downed Wagner, 7-6 (5), 6-4, in the number three singles match for UB's other point. Kolomytes pulled his singles record above .500 on Saturday and is now 4-3 in his UB career.

Opening play in both contests against Boston College and Brown, UB’s third doubles team of Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornlea) and Albert Alant (Pretoria, South Africa/Niskayuna (NY)) scored victories for the Bulls. In Saturday’s opener at Boston College, Rockman and Alant defeated Brian Garber and Alex Rastorgouey, 8-6, helping give the Bulls the doubles point against the Eagles. Against Brown, the duo earned an 8-4 win over Noah Gardner and Joe Scott. However, Brown pulled out the point with wins in the number one and two matches. It was the first time this season that Rockman and Alant had been paired together for dual meet competition. The pair is now 4-1 overall, including a 2-1 mark in fall tournament action.

Singh Panthlia’s Streak Comes to an End

The winning streak that had reached eight consecutive doubles and singles matches for Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) came to a end on Saturday. The streak was stopped in doubles play as the Boston College tandem of Thomas Nolan and Jason Sechrist scored an 8-1 victory over Singh Panthlia and Octavian Stane (Toronto, Ontario/Leaside). Singh Panthlia also went 0-2 in his singles matches on Saturday, including a three-set loss to Brown’s Basu Ratnam (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) in the evening contest. For the season, Singh Panthlia is 12-8 in singles and 13-4 in doubles.

Bulls to Cover New York State for Weekend Matches

The Bulls hit the road again for two matches this weekend, however the team will be staying within The Empire State. On Saturday, the team travels to Stony Brook to face the Seawolves at 3:00 pm and then heads to Ithaca for a matchup with Cornell on Sunday starting at 10:00 am. The match against the Big Red will be followed by a UB women’s match against Cornell.
