ROCHESTER, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team defeated Division III power Rochester, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon in Rochester. The win improved UB's dual meet mark to 3-6 while the match was Rochester's first dual competition of the season.

UB opened play by scoring the doubles point with victories at the number one and three slots. The Bulls had to juggle the lineup due an elbow injury to junior Randy Rocchio (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) that sidelined him from the match.

Replacing Rocchio in the doubles lineup was Ivan Chamdani (Jakarta, Indonesia/Hilton Head (SC) Prep), who paired with Nick Zieziula (Hamburg, NY/St. Francis) to take down the Yellowjackets' top duo, Colin Ryan and Dan Williford, 8-6. The number three team of Josh Liederman (Queens Village, NY/Benjamin Cardozo) and Rangga Prayudha (Jakarta, Indonesia/Hilton Head (SC) Prep) defeated Eric Prince and Josh Bruce-Black, 8-2, to secure the doubles point. In the number two match, UB's Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia) and Albert Alant (Pretoria, South Africa/Niskayuna (NY) HS) were defeated by Partha Bhattacharya and Ayinash Reddy, 8-6.

In singles play, the Bulls scored four victories, highlighted by Zieziula moving up to number one to down Reddy in three sets. Zieziula knocked off his Rochester opponent, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, to give the junior his 20th singles win of the season, tying him with John Lavere (1992-93) for the most in a single Division I season.

Liederman, Prayudha and Hadisubroto also picked up wins for the Bulls at third, fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Liederman defeated Bhattacharya, 6-1, 6-1. Prayudha defeated Ryan in three sets, 6-2, 0-6, 7-5. Hadisubroto needed a tiebreaker to defeat Prince, rallying for the win, 6-7 (5), 6-1, 1-0 (10-8). Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornhill) was defeated by Rochester's Williford, 6-2, 6-2, at number two and Alant fell to Michael Lee, 7-5, 6-4.

The Bulls travel to St. Bonaventure for a pair of neutral site matches on Saturday. UB takes on Bucknell at 9 am followed by Duquesne at 1 pm. The Bulls open Mid-American Conference play on Sunday afternoon at 4 pm when they host Western Michigan at the Village Glen Tennis Center.
