WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The Mid-American Conference schedule kicked off Friday afternoon as the University at Buffalo men's tennis team fell to league rival Western Michigan, 7-0, at the Village Glen Tennis Center in Williamsville. UB is now 3-3 overall and 0-1 in MAC play while the Broncos, ranked 70th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, moves to 11-1 overall, 1-0 MAC.

Western Michigan swept the three opening doubles matches from the Bulls to begin the contest. At number one, UB's duo of Yules Hadisubroto (Jakarta, Indonesia/SMUN 21) and Nikesh Singh Panthlia (George Town, Malaysia/BMK Penang Free School) were defeated by Brady Crosby and Bryan Norville, 8-2. At number two, UB's Albert Alant (Pretoria, South Africa/Niskayuna (NY)) and Fred Duncan (East Amherst, NY/Nichols) fell to Jose Orozco and Alex Birchmeier, 8-3. The number three team of Mike Rockman (Toronto, Ontario/Thornlea) and Matt Kennedy (Mississauga, Ontario/Erindale) dropped an 8-3 decision to Jeff French and Tim Bradshaw.

UB also slipped in all six singles matches. Singh Panthlia, playing first singles for the first time this season, fell to Orozco, 6-3, 6-4, although the UB sophomore kept the second set close, forcing a pair of deuces in the final game before Orozco pulled out the match.

At number two, Rockman dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Crosby. Kennedy, at number three, fell to Birchmeier, 6-3, 6-0. Hadisubroto, at number four, lost to Kevin Hayward, 6-1, 6-4. Alant was defeated at number five by French, 6-2, 6-0. Duncan fell at number six to Alejandro Staub, 6-3, 6-4.
